Week One Where When
Monday Smith Senior Center 6:30 PM to 8:45 PM
Tuesday Lake Townsend Marina 5:30 PM to closing

  • Swimming ability is required.

  • Minimum age is 15 and, if 15, must be accompanied by a participating adult.

  • Fee for the Learn to Sail class is $100 per person and is to be paid when you register or at the first class meeting. This fee includes a Start Sailing Right! manual for each student and use of the city's Pico, Aqua Finn and Capri 14 rental boats. Start Sailing Right! is the official learn to sail book of the US Sailing Association and Red Cross.

  • Free T-Shirt also included for each student. Specify size of shirt on the class registration form.

  • Lake Townsend and Marina are located north of Greensboro off of Hwy 29.

  • For more information, telephone 373-3694 (Lake Warden's office) or pick up one of the Sailing Class brochures located in a rack in the breezeway next to the Warden's office at the lake.

  • Please bring the filled out Release Waiver, Medical and Class Rules form to class with you. Should you not be able to print the form we will have copies available at the first class meeting.

To register and pay online by credit card or Paypal , go to the Learn To Sail Registration page. Fill out the form and click the Submit and Proceed to Payment Page button. This will send a confirmation email to the email address you entered and bring up the Payment page.

To register only and pay at the first class meeting , go to the Learn To Sail Registration page. Fill out the form and click the Submit and Proceed to Payment Page button. This will send a confirmation email to the email address you entered and bring up the Payment page. Just close the Payment page without making payment.

Contact the Education Chair to see if we can come up with a plan to meet your goals and schedule. Possibilities could range from an introductory sailing class, individualized instruction to learn to sail or advanced sailing, as well as group lessons and more.

Here at Lake Townsend we want to get as many people sailing on the water as possible. But we also need to make sure that everyone is safe and confident in their sailing ability.
